By definition, a chemical clock is: ‘any mixture of compounds whose relative concentrations oscillate, and in which such change is marked by a visible rhythmic change in color.’ The members of Chemical Clock do not study chemistry, but in music, enjoy the concept of visible rhythmic changes in color. Chemical Clock is a group of musicians stemming from the jazz department at the University of Washington. They perform original works that have been influenced by a number of artists and musical paradigms. The quartet seeks to blend sounds inspired by electronic music, avant-guarde jazz, math rock, and the free jazz movement as a way to extend jazz to a younger, more modern audience.
