The musicians of Datura began performing together in Spring of 2008 as a part of the jazz program at the University of Washington. Since then they have developed their own unique musical concept, under the guidance of faculty member Cuong Vu (Cuong Vu Trio/Pat Metheny Group). Datura’s music is characterized by intricate melodies with complex rhythms, as well as trance-like grooves with great attention to detail. This group’s sound is influenced by a wide variety of genres including European nu-jazz, alternative rock, and electronica.
